Minority Report Season 1 Episode 8
Spoiler Zone
I have quite enjoyed Minority Report since it started. I have been meaning to watch the 2002 film with Tom Cruise as the TV series is based off it AND the concept was created by Philip K Dick in his namesake novel. He also wrote the Blade Runner novel titled Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep? How cool is that title?
Anyway...
We're talking about the show. I really enjoyed this episode, as we got to see more of Wilmer Valderrama's character Will Blake in depth because until now, we only saw him as a buffer between Vega and the big shots but now we realise he was first hand, affected by pre-crime and affected by the laws of the US concerning Latin America. Well I like him more than I did before, which was just eh. I was craving more from him because he was generally seen as a 'bad/mediocre guy' who Alex believed took all her credit and was thinking - He's a pretty big name, shouldn't he need more screen time? Seeing his story more in depth gives us a bigger picture of each character's fragility. We saw Alex's father and the siblings' story and now we have Blake's. I'm missing Aquila's though. We know she did something or something happened to her to cause her to get face tattoos to avoid face recognition software, but what I want to know is why.
Other than character depth and the emphasis on judging this century's immigration/asylum laws in a futuristic sense (I don't know much about America's situation since I'm Aussie and we have our own problems but it seems to be an important thing), we see the idea of this group obtaining the Memento Mori, Latin for "Remember you will die", which ties into the whole Mexican Day of the Dead thing. I'm interested to see what this group/person do/does with an ancient ideal in the future. I don't know how else to comment on it since I'm not too familiar with the topic but according to Wikipedia Memento Mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character, by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife. How that relates to the future and what they're going to do with it, I don't know but I'm looking forward to finding out. Since it has to do with death and afterlife, my fortune telling senses are telling me that Arthur, Dash and Agatha have more to do with it than Dash's involvement with the PoPo. Will it be the cause in them getting back in the milk bath? I hope not. But some shit WILL GO DOWN and now that Blake is in on the game, it will just get better (better as in the shit that goes down, not the show itself, but it's a possibility).
Well, that's all for now, till next time MR.
